Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about why functional medicine is becoming increasingly more popular among health-seekers, how our practice works and what you can expect working with us in the FAQs below.
Our practice is designed for those who know something doesn’t feel right, even if they’ve been told their labs are “normal.”If you’re struggling with fatigue, brain fog, stubborn weight gain, digestive issues, inflammation, hormone changes, or simply don’t feel like yourself anymore, we’ll help you understand what your body has been trying to tell you.
- Many of our patients have already seen primary care providers, specialists, and even other functional medicine practitioners before coming to us.
Instead of focusing on one symptom at a time, we look at how your hormones, metabolism, gut health, inflammation, nutrition, lifestyle, and stress are working together. We believe healing happens when the whole system is supported, not when individual symptoms are chased. Yes!
Normal laboratory ranges are designed to help identify disease, not necessarily explain why you’re exhausted, gaining weight, struggling with brain fog, or feeling unlike yourself. We combine your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and advanced testing when appropriate to better understand what’s contributing to how you’re feeling. We commonly help women and men experiencing:
- Perimenopause and menopause
- Hormonal imbalance
- Fatigue
- Brain fog
- Weight gain resistant to diet and exercise
- Digestive issues
- Poor sleep
- Inflammation
- Autoimmune concerns
- Blood sugar and metabolic dysfunction
- Longevity optimization
Our Approach
We don’t believe your body is working against you.
Symptoms are often signs that your body is adapting to stress, inflammation, hormonal changes, or metabolic imbalance.
Our goal is to understand why those symptoms developed so we can create a personalized plan that supports your body rather than fighting it.
The Roadmap to Optimal Health is our personalized framework for helping patients heal in the right order.
Rather than trying to fix everything at once, we identify the systems asking for the most support and create a step-by-step plan that may include hormone optimization, gut health, nutrition, inflammation reduction, metabolic health, movement, sleep, stress management, and lifestyle changes.
No two roadmaps are exactly alike because no two patients are exactly alike.
Yes, when appropriate.
Your treatment plan may include prescription medications, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), targeted supplements, nutrition, lifestyle recommendations, or a combination of these, depending on your individual needs.
Not necessarily.
We recommend supplements only when they serve a clear purpose. Our goal isn’t to have you take more supplements—it’s to help you take the right ones for the right reasons while avoiding unnecessary products.
Working Together
Every patient is different.
Some women notice improvements within a few weeks, while others experience more gradual progress over several months.
Our focus isn’t on quick fixes. It’s creating lasting improvements in how you feel by addressing the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms.
Yes!
Many appointments can be completed virtually, making it easier to receive care regardless of where you live (subject to state licensure requirements).
Absolutely.
While many of our patients are in perimenopause or menopause, we also help younger women experiencing hormone imbalances, fatigue, gut health concerns, inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, or unexplained symptoms.
Yes!
Many of our patients come to us already taking hormone replacement therapy but still don’t feel like themselves. While hormones can be life-changing for many women, they’re only one piece of the puzzle.
If you’re still struggling with fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, inflammation, or difficulty losing weight, we’ll look beyond your hormone levels to understand what else may be preventing you from feeling your best. Our goal is to help your entire body function optimally—not simply adjust hormone doses.
- That’s completely okay.Every treatment plan is personalized, and hormone replacement therapy is never a requirement for becoming a patient at Re-Balance Health & Wellness.Depending on your symptoms and goals, your care plan may focus on nutrition, gut health, metabolic health, inflammation, sleep, stress resilience, targeted supplements, lifestyle changes, or other therapies that support your body’s natural ability to heal. Our role is to educate you on your options so you can make informed decisions that feel right for you.
- Stress affects far more than your mood. When your body is under chronic stress, it prioritizes survival over optimal function. Over time, this can influence sleep, hormones, digestion, blood sugar regulation, inflammation, immune function, metabolism, and energy production. That doesn’t mean stress is always the root cause, but it is often one of several factors contributing to how you’re feeling. We take the time to understand your whole story because lasting healing requires looking at the complete picture.
Insurance & Invesement
Re-Balance Health & Wellness is a direct-pay practice, which allows us to spend more time with each patient and provide personalized, comprehensive care that is often not possible within the constraints of traditional insurance-based medicine.
While we do not bill insurance directly, many laboratory tests, imaging studies, and prescriptions may be covered by your insurance depending on your individual plan. We are happy to discuss your options during your visit.
In many cases, yes.
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can often be used for medical visits, laboratory testing, and eligible services. Because every plan is different, we recommend checking with your HSA or FSA administrator to confirm your specific coverage.Yes. We believe financial considerations shouldn’t prevent you from investing in your health.
We offer payment options for many of our programs to help make care more accessible. Our team is happy to discuss available options and help you find a plan that works for your budget.
Your Appointment
Your initial consultation is a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand the whole picture—not just your symptoms.
Before your visit, we’ll review your health history, completed intake forms, and any previous laboratory work you’ve provided. During your appointment, we’ll take time to discuss your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, and health goals.
Together, we’ll begin identifying the underlying factors that may be contributing to how you’re feeling and discuss the next steps in creating your personalized Roadmap to Optimal Health.
Many women tell us this during their first visit.
They’ve tried diets, supplements, medications, exercise programs, and countless online recommendations, yet they still don’t feel well.
Often, it isn’t because they haven’t worked hard enough. It’s because they’ve never had a plan that looked at how all of their body’s systems work together.
Healing doesn’t happen by trying more things. It happens by addressing the right things in the right order. That’s the philosophy behind our Roadmap to Optimal Health, and it’s why we create a personalized plan that’s built around you.
Healing doesn’t happen in a single visit, which is why we believe ongoing guidance and support are essential.
Many patients begin their journey in one of our comprehensive wellness programs, where we provide more frequent follow-up appointments, regular check-ins, and personalized support as we implement your treatment plan. During this phase, we’re able to monitor your progress closely, review laboratory results, answer questions, and make thoughtful adjustments along the way.
As your health improves and you begin feeling more like yourself, most patients transition into one of our membership programs. This allows us to continue partnering with you through regular follow-up care while helping you maintain your progress and optimize your long-term health.
Our goal is to provide the right level of support at every stage of your journey—because lasting health isn’t built in a single appointment. It’s built through a thoughtful partnership that evolves as your body heals.
- Many of our services are available through virtual appointments, allowing us to care for patients from multiple states.Because medical licensing regulations vary by state, the services we can provide depend on where you live. Our team will be happy to let you know whether we’re currently able to provide care in your state.

No!
Our philosophy isn’t about perfection, it’s about balance.
Food should nourish your body, but it should also be enjoyed. While some patients may benefit from temporary dietary changes as part of their healing journey, our long-term goal is to create a sustainable way of eating that allows flexibility without sacrificing your health.
We’re here to help you build a healthy relationship with food, not create fear around it.
Growing older brings change, but constantly feeling exhausted, foggy, inflamed, or unlike yourself shouldn’t simply be accepted as normal.
While hormone changes and aging influence how the body functions, they don’t explain every symptom. Many women are told their symptoms are “just aging” when there are underlying factors that deserve attention.
Our goal is to help you understand what’s driving your symptoms so you can feel stronger, healthier, and more like yourself again.
Yes.
You don’t need a diagnosis to know something doesn’t feel right.
Many women come to us because they have symptoms that affect their quality of life even though they haven’t been diagnosed with a specific medical condition.
We believe your symptoms matter. Our role is to listen carefully, look for patterns, and identify the factors that may be contributing to how you’re feeling so we can create a personalized plan to help you move forward.
- This is one of the most common questions we hear.Healthy habits are important, but they aren’t always enough, especially during perimenopause and menopause. Hormonal changes, inflammation, poor sleep, chronic stress, gut health, nutrient deficiencies, and metabolic changes can all influence how your body responds to nutrition and exercise.Sometimes the strategies that worked in your 20s and 30s are no longer the strategies your body needs today.Instead of encouraging you to work harder, we help you understand how to work with your biology. By identifying what’s creating stress within your body, we can develop a plan that supports your health rather than asking your body to do more with less.
- No. Hormone imbalances can occur at any age.Whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or beyond, symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, irregular or painful cycles, difficulty losing weight, low libido, acne, hair loss, or poor sleep may be signs that your hormones deserve a closer look.At Re-Balance Health & Wellness, we don’t make assumptions based on your age. We listen to your symptoms, review your health history, and recommend testing when it’s appropriate to better understand what’s contributing to how you’re feeling.Hormones are just one piece of the picture, but when they’re out of balance, they can affect nearly every system in the body. Our goal is to identify the underlying factors behind your symptoms and create a personalized plan that helps you feel your best.
- Absolutely. If you’ve had recent laboratory testing performed by another provider, we encourage you to send those results before your appointment. Reviewing existing labs often helps us avoid unnecessary repeat testing and provides valuable insight into your health history. If additional testing is needed, we’ll explain why it’s recommended and how it will help guide your care.
- Yes!We believe the best care happens when healthcare providers work together. Re-Balance Health & Wellness is designed to complement—not replace—the care you receive from your primary care provider and other specialists.Your primary care provider plays an important role in routine screenings, acute illnesses, vaccinations, and managing many chronic medical conditions. Our role is to take a deeper look at the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms, identify opportunities to optimize your health, and partner with you to create a personalized plan that supports your long-term well-being.Whenever appropriate, we encourage open communication between your healthcare providers so your care remains coordinated and centred around you.
- Yes. In fact, many of the women we care for have heard those exact words.Routine laboratory testing is an important part of healthcare and plays a critical role in identifying disease and serious medical conditions. But normal lab results don’t always explain why you’re struggling with fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, digestive issues, poor sleep, or simply don’t feel like yourself. At Re-Balance Health & Wellness, we believe your symptoms matter. We take the time to listen to your story, review your health history, evaluate your existing laboratory results, and recommend additional testing when it’s appropriate to better understand what’s contributing to how you’re feeling. Our goal isn’t to convince you that something is wrong with you. It’s to help you understand what your body may be trying to tell you and create a personalized plan that supports your health from the inside out.Just because your labs are normal doesn’t mean your concerns aren’t real. If you don’t feel like yourself, you deserve to be heard.
- This one is gold. There are LOTS of women who’ve already done it.Answer:Many patients come to us after trying supplements, hormones, diets, or other functional medicine programs without lasting success. One of the biggest differences at Re-Balance is that we don’t believe healing comes from adding more.
It comes from understanding which systems need support first and creating a personalized plan that addresses them in the right order. - Yes!
Men experience many of the same health concerns, including fatigue, low energy, weight gain, brain fog, digestive issues, poor sleep, hormone imbalances, metabolic dysfunction, and inflammation. We take the same personalized, root-cause approach to men’s health by looking beyond symptoms to better understand what’s contributing to how they’re feeling.Whether you’re looking to optimize your health, improve your energy, support healthy aging, or address ongoing symptoms, we’ll create a personalized plan designed around your unique needs and goals. Our mission is simple: to help every patient better understand their body, restore their health, and feel their best. - If you’ve been asking yourself this question, you’re not alone. Many of the patients we care for describe feeling exhausted, struggling with brain fog, gaining weight despite healthy habits, or simply not recognizing themselves anymore.
While these changes are common, they shouldn’t simply be accepted as “just getting older.” Hormones may be part of the picture, but they’re rarely the whole story. Gut health, inflammation, metabolism, nutrition, sleep, stress, and other underlying factors can all influence how you feel.At Re-Balance Health & Wellness, we don’t just ask, “What’s wrong?” We ask, “What is your body trying to tell us?” By understanding the whole picture, we create a personalized plan designed to help you restore your health and feel like yourself again. - Feeling exhausted despite “normal” lab work is one of the most common reasons patients come to Re-Balance Health & Wellness.
Routine laboratory tests are designed to identify disease, but they don’t always explain why you don’t feel your best.
Fatigue can be influenced by many factors, including hormone changes, poor sleep, chronic stress, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar imbalance, gut health, and how efficiently your body produces energy.
Rather than focusing on one number, we look at the whole picture to better understand what’s contributing to your symptoms and create a personalized plan to help restore your energy. - Weight gain isn’t always about willpower or eating too much.
Hormone changes, especially during perimenopause and menopause, can affect metabolism, muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, and how your body stores fat. Stress, poor sleep, inflammation, gut health, and certain medications can also make it harder to maintain a healthy weight.
At Re-Balance Health & Wellness, we look beyond calories to understand why your body may not be responding the way it once did. Our goal is to help you work with your biology—not against it. - Many women experience brain fog during perimenopause, but that doesn’t mean you have to simply accept it.
Hormonal changes can affect memory, focus, and mental clarity, but they are rarely the only factor. Poor sleep, chronic stress, inflammation, blood sugar imbalance, nutrient deficiencies, and overall metabolic health can all contribute to feeling mentally “off.”
By looking at the whole picture, we can identify what’s contributing to your symptoms and create a plan to help you regain clarity and confidence. - Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health, but more isn’t always better.
During certain seasons of life, especially perimenopause and menopause, your body may respond differently to the workouts that once made you feel energized. Hormone changes, chronic stress, inadequate recovery, poor sleep, under-fueling, and inflammation can all make intense exercise feel more draining than beneficial.
The goal isn’t to stop exercising—it’s to choose the right type and amount of movement for what your body needs today. - 100%!
Hormones and gut health are closely connected. Hormonal changes can influence digestion, the balance of bacteria in your gut, bowel habits, and even how your body processes and eliminates estrogen.
At the same time, an unhealthy gut can affect inflammation, nutrient absorption, and hormone metabolism. That’s why we don’t look at hormones or gut health in isolation. Understanding how these systems work together helps us create a more complete and personalized plan for your health. - Inflammation doesn’t directly cause weight gain on its own, but it can influence many of the processes that make maintaining a healthy weight more difficult.
Chronic inflammation may affect insulin sensitivity, metabolism, energy production, hormone balance, sleep, and your body’s response to stress. It can also make healthy habits feel less effective.
Our approach focuses on identifying what’s driving inflammation and supporting your body in a way that promotes long-term health—not simply treating the number on the scale. - As we age, our bodies naturally change.
Hormonal shifts, loss of muscle mass, changes in metabolism, increased insulin resistance, stress, and poor sleep can all make weight loss more challenging than it was in your 20s or 30s. That doesn’t mean your body is working against you.
It simply means it may need a different approach. Rather than encouraging you to eat less and exercise more, we focus on understanding what’s creating resistance so we can help your body work more efficiently. - Many women describe feeling like they’ve lost themselves during perimenopause and menopause.
They often experience changes in energy, mood, memory, sleep, weight, and confidence that affect nearly every part of daily life. While these symptoms are common, they shouldn’t simply be dismissed as an unavoidable part of aging.
